I was looking at my old entries especially those that were written before my undergrad thesis days. I noticed how much more beautifully I wrote back then. Each sentence was meticulously written where each word meant something, and when you tied them all together it would create a colourful painting.
Ever since I took poetry class, I integrated my lessons into how I would translate imagery into text. I wanted to paint a picture through senses and emotions. It felt close and personal, and almost voyeuristic.
I think that was my main focus on writing–to provide a direct connection from senses, emotions, and experiences to text. But as I got more and more into research, my writing style started to change.
I was more focused at building a narrative, a coherent story, a journey that would take the reader from point A to point B. Think of it this way: my poetry writing style focused on illustrating a snapshot in time while my narrative writing has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
It has come to my attention that I truly am a terrible writer. Hence, I plan to change how I write. My“style” (as if I had one) won’t be any different, ‘though the manner of editing will. On a single day, I shall write as much as I can. I’ll leave it as a draft for a week, come back to it, and edit it. This one week absence followed by editing shall repeat until I am completely satisfied with it. This brings me to my saddest volume of this entry. This blog may be on hiatus for weeks, or even months on end. High-quality content will not suffice from now on. This would mean that I may have to scrap some entries that I would have worked on for weeks. I’m working on entry about love; it’s going to take a while before I put it out. It would probably be published on the first days of January, but only if the weeks leading up to it are favourable.
I implore you to watch this. I’ve been listening to this whilst contemplating on the train ride back from uni for the past week.
Look at my stats, and tell me something. Am I good blogger?
I’ve been blogging for quite some time, and one thing always escapes me, “Why haven’t I been on Freshly Pressed?” Or better yet, “Why don’t I have hundreds of viewers at a time in my blog?” Granted, I only stepped up my game a year ago. However, I see other bloggers gaining recognition after only 5 months of blogging (and they write you as u.) So what’s up with me?
Could it be my tags? I don’t think so, since I leave it to WordPress to tag my posts.
Could it be my titles? Probably. I still don’t get this how-to-attract-readers-with-an-attractive-title thing.
Could it be the content itself? According to the stats, it seems so:
I have an announcement to make, and I believe it’s a very happy announcement. I’ve been trying to get myself to write a story for quite some time now. I’ve written plenty of short stories and a couple of plays, but none of them ever reached ten pages long (Times New Roman 12, double spacing. Just to give you a perspective). That’s all gonna change now. As written above, I’m going to write a novella. Not a novel just yet, I’m not ready for that hahaha!
The novella I’m writing will be based on something I really love. In other words, I’ll be writing a fanfiction. This fanfiction will be different from the other fanfictions of this thing that I’ve read before. Also, I can’t tell you which thing I’m basing this off. Why? It’s part of the story. :D I’ve all ready made the ending of the novella-fanfic, so all I have to do is make everything else.
A little something about the novella-fanfic:
I chose this because I can write it to my style, with my dialouge and whatnot. But aren’t fanfics suppose to be faithful to what it is based on? True. However, there is a part of this thing that has yet to be explored and published by the creator/s. That gives me the liberty of writing the novella-fanfic to whichever way I want.
I see great potential of character and setting development here. The historical background thing is so diverse and shrouded in mystery, I can literally do whatever I want to the characters and setting.
The name of the character will not be disclosed ’til the end of the novella (obviously). There will be only one name that will be disclosed, and I won’t tell you now. :D
It will take a bit of time to write this because of the character’s profession. I have not heard of this profession until the thing told me about it. I will have to do some extensive research on the profession because character seems to be very faithful and very serious about it. I must–at least–give the character the satisfaction of knowing such knowledge.
The last chapters of the novella will begin to reveal the thing.
You, the readers, have the chance to tell me what you want to see in the upcoming chapters. :D All recommendations will be considered, and if it’s really brilliant, I’ll revise it a bit put it in the upcoming chapters.
Everything that I use which isn’t mine will be referenced, cited and mentioned.
The frequency of this novella-fanfic will be irregular. I can’t promise to churn out one chapter a week. I’m a struggling university student who has deadlines to meet. LOL.
One more thing. I’m looking for volunteers who would like to edit my work before I publish it here. If you are interested in doing so, send me a message, add me on facebook or anything. We can meet IRL or online, chat about what’s wrong with the chapter or what needs to be fixed. Critique me, I can take it hahahaha! Oh, the kind of editor I’m looking for HAS to be a better editor than I am.
Yes, we shall have a real writer and editor relationship. :D That being said, it will take me one week at most to release the chapter after editing. If the editor/s tells me that there’s something else to fix after the first edition, it will take me another week at most. So on and so forth.
I wish to publish in quality, not quantity :D YOU HEAR THAT PUBLIC FILIPINO TELEVISION??? QUALITY!!!!
The personal blog, an ongoing diary or commentary by an individual, is the traditional, most common blog. Personal bloggers usually take pride in their blog posts, even if their blog is never read. (Wikipedia)
This cannot be any truer. I am very proud of my blog, and it is a great miracle that I can actually reach out to millions of people with just a single click. Not many people read my stuff, which is okay. I only write stuff about what bothers me and what interests me. I write because it is a great outlet for me, and it is definitely better than smoking.
However, it has come to my attention that despite my valiant efforts in writing something that’s worth reading, the most viewed post in my blog isn’t even written by, your’s truly. The post I’m talking about is Why You should Date a Photographer.
This piece is excellently written. And I have to admit, I cannot write as good as this. Which then brings me to the next point, realisation. I am a terrible writer. It’s true! I’ve seen the statistics in my dashboard and Why You should Date a Photographer is the most viewed in the three years that I’ve been writing in this blog.
I’m not interested in how many views I get, I’m just bothered by the fact that something I didn’t write is the most popular thing in my blog. It’s like losing in dice rolling with your own loaded dice. It really stings.
PS that a picture from a JAV. It’s pretty good lol
